These fireworks over the Washington Monument are typical of Fourth of July celebrations (wikipedia.org). The Washington Post web site (tough web site to navigate and search) has an interesting time line (link) of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" and the associated fireworks that will be launched tonight on the mall in Washington, DC. They can be viewed on most PBS stations.
