Back at the beginning of March, I posted entry about the Callwave voice mail system. I was not sure it made sense for me to use. Well over a month later I am still using it and I have found it quite useful. The features I find the most useful are:
- email with caller id information (name if available from calling system or callwave contact entry) for missed calls that did not go to voice mail, or
- email with caller id information (name if available from calling system or callwave contact entry) and voice mail .wav file attached
This works great with Direct Push email from 4smartphone.com hosted Exchange. I get the emails within one minute of the calls and choose the voice mails I want to listen to. The advantage of the missed call email allows me to see calls even in areas were I don't get a cell signal. You can also configure Callwave to send SMS text messages, however unless you have an unlimited text plan, the cost can get onerous and you do not get the voice mail attachment. I also like the Callwave Vista gadget that allows you to view and play voice mails from the sidebar. The service does use my forwarding minutes which for now don't even come close the 1000 minutes a month my plan has.
My current set up uses Find Me forwarding on my Sunrocket VOIP number to my T-Mobile cell number to Callwave voicemail. This allows me to have a single intelligent voice mail system.
All this for free, I think it is a pretty good deal.
