Even with my best intentions I never got around to blogging last week but here are some travel technology thoughts:
- This is the first trip I have taken where all of the hotels we stayed at had Internet access. The one that surprised me the most was the Glenn Ella Springs Inn in rural north Georgia. No TV in the room, however I had access to free WIFI. Quaint rustic inn in the country side (on a dirt road) with a good restaurant. We also stayed at a Staybridge suites hotel which had wired Internet, I was very happy to have my cigarette pack sized Netgear WGR-101 travel router.
- T-Mobile coverage was excellent on Interstate highways and in cities. Roaming on SunCom on I95 and Cingular in norther Georgia worked fine with no additional charges on my nationwide plan. It became spotty in the country side but in general I had decent coverage. I did find that when the MDA (radio version 02.25.11) lost signal for an extended period of time, it seems to have trouble regaining a signal unless I performed a soft reset. There is a new radio rom version 02.47.11 found on xda-developers. General user feedback is that it regains the signal faster, seems to provide a stronger signal, however it impacts battery life. I may have to try it.
- I used the Gomadic double charger with the Tip Exchange feature on this trip, it worked very well and is very compact. I will be posting a review on pocketnow.com very soon.
- My Fizz Weather review should be appearing next week on pocketnow.com. This is a great piece of software, especially when you are travelling.
