The pundits in the Apple community have longed lived under the impression that the MAC OS X operating system alone could protect them against viruses. Forbes.com has reported it here.
As a software architect and developer I know full well that no software program is perfect. There is a 90/10 rule in the industry; with process and management you can easily get the quality of software to 90% but to get the quality to 100% the cost of a project can more than double. Past the 90% any additional quality must taken against the ROI of the project. I am sure Apple has done the same with MAC OS X, I was always convinced that there had to be holes. I am not saying that the MAC OS X is badly designed or coded, it is just not as perfect as some might think. I am convinced that hackers are in it for notoriety. Up to now Windows was the only real target and an easy one at that. With the success of the iPod, Apple has become a tempting target and it is time for Apple users to join their brethren in the Windows community and buy anti-virus software.
