T-Mobile MDA - Upgrading to Xelencin's O2 2.21 ROM with T-Mobile Customization
The basis for this ROM upgrade package from Xelencin is the released ROM from O2. This ROM is still based on AKU 2.0, it does not include A2DP and the vibrating fix when Direct Push email arrives. The only major bug reported to date is the add contact menu dialog in the phone dialer disappearing before you have a chance to select an action, This can generate erroneous contacts. The ROM download thread can be found here.
Since this was a ROM upgrade, I was unable to use a Sprite 5.0 backup, I have not tried Sprite 5.1 yet.
Before the upgrade I did a hard reset with the clear storage program. The first time I tried to perform the upgrade I received a USB communication error, after several attempts I rebooted my PC and the upgrade proceeded without a problem.
I then used my tweaks from my 2.17 upgrade posted here, the A2DP update posted here, and my restore notes posted here.
The version differences.
Storage and Program memory usage with the initial installs and Soti's Pocket Controller. First Xelencin's ROM 2.17 package and second the ROM 2.21 package. I lost .57 MB of storage memory while gaining 1.20 MB of program memory with ROM 2.21.
I have not noticed any real difference between the two versions, since they are both based on AKU 2.0, I think it just contains additional bug fixes although it looks like they broke the add contact in the dialer. The only real advantage to installing ROM 2.21 is the additional memory Xelencin was able to gain with his paired down installation package. I will take the additional program memory since I seldom use the add contact from the dialer.
